1Sociological InternshipsInternship program is practical work-oriented, in which students can practice sociological theories studied in the lecturing. For that reason, in this program, the Department of Sociology needs to cooperate with institutions or companies as the site where the students do practical work. The companies and institutions to be the location of internship are selected by the students based on some considerations. One of them is the students’ contribution to the institution and its relevance to knowledge obtained during studying in the department of Sociology. In addition, the issues discussed by institution should be compatible to Sociological issues to make the working process more directed.
2Postmodern TheoryThis course is intended to develop students’ ability of explaining and applying postmodern theory. This theory covers basic philosophy of Postmodern theory through postmodern development. In this course, students are invited to identify the figure creating theories, basic concepts, and applications of postmodern theories to the social reality.
3Sociological Research PlanningSociological Research Planning is the course containing the setting of materials intended to arrange the final project planning of students. The output of this course aims to accelerate the final project that should be done in the last phase of study. Sociological Research Planning confirms all courses that have been studied including theoretical, methodological and analytical courses supported with field assignments. The accumulation of all conditions requires the students’ competency to develop them integrally in the form of students’ final project/thesis. For that reason, the lecturing scheme will use practical pattern in preparing learning material/scheme/orientation in the attempt of completing the final project. .
4Sociology of EnvironmentalThis course introduces sociological perspective on environment or interaction between human beings and their environment. This course focuses on studying the basic concept of environmental sociology (ecology), global environmental issue phenomenon, environmental political movement and ecological-and social justice-based community empowerment, social political identity of environment, natural resource, and community, environmental change, political ecology, environment-based economic development. In certain focus, this course studies environmental movement and ecological modernization concept.
5Urban SociologyThis course is intended develop the students’ ability of explaining and analyzing urban phenomenon and problems from Sociological perspective. Core competency developed in Department of Sociology, FISIP, UNS and Urban Crisis Sociology and Community Empowerment. This core competence requires the students and the lecturers to understand comprehensively and the trend urban crisis and its cause, and to develop various approaches to solve it. Urbanization problem as the Urbanization problem as the migration phenomenon and cultural and social-cultural development, and urban spatial layout, as well as the forms of urban crisis in urban areas. In discussing the three basic materials, the students will be lead to the urban empirical reality, particularly in Surakarta. Considering the understanding on the three materials and the result of laboratory study, in the end of lecture, the students are expected to have theoretical knowledge on urban sociology, and practical experience with the problems developing in urban areas.
6Sociology of EducationDescribing the philosophy, paradigm, sociological theory, method and issue requiring the use of quantitative research method in the form of correlation and causality in survey or experiment or qualitative research method in descriptive, phenomenological, ethnographic, case study Participatory action research (PAR), class action Research (CAR) and grounded research forms on the Sociology of Education, particularly concerning Education and Political Policy, Economy, Culture, Multiculturalism, Gender, Family, School, Community, Socialization, Social Stratification, Social Mobility, Social Transformation, etc, either online or offline.
7Sociology of ReligionSociology of Religion is the course studying religion through sociological perspective putting religion to be a social phenomenon rather than a religious doctrine. This sociological perspective will give an understanding on religion as a factor affected by various social-cultural factors (dependent variables). This course is intended to give the students an ability of understanding and explaining religious phenomenon occurring within society using more critical, and comprehensive perspective.
8Sociology of GenderThis course aims that after taking this course students can mention and explain about basic understanding of gender and sex, gender role relations, gender relations, theories that influence gender development and mention and explain the variety and techniques of gender analysis in the practice of social issues.
