Being an Academician through Sociology
SOSIO FISIP UNS (6/4)-Dr. Pajar Hatma Indra Jaya, S.Sos., M.Si. (Doctor Pajar) is an alumnus of Sociology Department of FISIP UNS, graduated in 2003. During his study, Fajar participated actively in Laboratory of Urban Crisis & Community Development (Lab UCYD) managed by a lecturer of Sociology Department of FISIP UNS, Dr. Drajat Tri Kartono, M.Si. Having graduated from Sociology Department of FISIP UNS, he continued his study in Master of Sociology Program of Universitas Gadjah Mada and graduated in 2005. Then, he continued his study in Sociology Doctorate Program in Universitas Gadjah Mada and graduated in 2012. He is one of permanent lecturers in Department of Islam Society Development, Faculty of Dakwah and Communication of Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta. In addition, Doctor Pajar is also assuming a mandate to be the Vice Dean for Students and Cooperation Division in the Faculty of Dakwah and Communication of Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Sunan Kalijaga in the period of 2020-2024.
As an academician, Doctor Pajar actively supports governmental program related to education improvement, one of which is the Freedom-to-Learn – Independent Campus (Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka or MBKM) program. To him, collaboration among the campuses is the starting point of a successful program in the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology to achieve common progress. As a lecturer in the Department of Islam Society Development, Doctor Pajar assumes some courses related to Sociology like Social Problem Analysis, Poverty Overcoming Policy, Lobbying and Negotiation, Society Development Practice, Documentation and Communication Technology.
In research field, he actively develops scientific works in the form of book chapter, book and journal. Some book chapters he has written are: Sekolah “Tukang” Pemberdayaan dalam Indonesia Berdaya Kiprah Prodi Pengembangan Masyarakat Islam in a book entitled Menyelesaikan Persoalan Bangsa Masyarakat (Solving National Society Problem) published by Samudra Biru and Islam Society Development Department of UIN in 2018; Pendekatan dan Strategi Alternatif Pembangunan Indonesia in a book entitled Pribumisasi Pekerjaan Sosial: Sebuah Upaya Dekolonisasi Teori dan Praktik Pekerjaan Sosial (Social Work Indigenization: An attempt of Decolonizing Social Work Theory and Practice) published by Postgraduate School of UIN Sunan Kalijaga, and so on. He also has written a book entitled Mengekonomikan Sungai: Sebuah Penelitian Aksi Untuk Mencari Model-Model Penyelesaian Masalah Masyarakat Pinggir Sungai (Economizing the River: An Action Research to find Problem Solving Models for River Bank Communities) published by Samudra Biru in 2019. He is interested in community empowerment and put it onto academic activities, e.g. being the speaker in Training of Trainer for Community Empowerment Facilitator in 2018.
In addition to being academician, Doctor Pajar also contributes actively to Regional Daily Council (Indonesian: Dewan Harian Daerah or DHD) ’45 of Daerah Istimewa Yogyakarta. To him, State Defense is an obligation building on the mandate of constitution and the manifestation of gratitude as the independent citizens. In the socialization of Pancasila, Nationality Insight and State Defense learning in the attempt of celebrating the 62nd anniversary of DHD’45, Doctor Pajar stated that state defense can be done not only physically, but also through improving the feeling of nationalism, the awareness of living in state and nation, love to homeland, and participating actively in promoting the nation and state.
